How to Add ProtonMail to Apple Mail on Mac Using Bridge
Connect your encrypted ProtonMail account to Apple Mail on Mac using ProtonMail Bridge. Requires a paid Proton plan.
Contents
ProtonMail requires its Bridge application to work with Apple Mail. Bridge runs locally and acts as a secure gateway between ProtonMail's encrypted servers and your email client.
Paid plan only: ProtonMail Bridge is available for paid subscribers (Mail Plus, Proton Unlimited, or Business plans).
Step 1: Install and Configure ProtonMail Bridge
- Download Bridge from proton.me/mail/bridge (Mac version).
- Open Bridge and sign in with your ProtonMail account.
- In the Bridge app, select your account and note the IMAP address, ports, and Bridge password.
- Keep Bridge running — it must stay open for Apple Mail to work.
Step 2: Add the Account in Apple Mail
- Open Apple Mail → Mail → Add Account → Other Mail Account → Continue.
- Enter your ProtonMail address and the Bridge password (not your ProtonMail login password).
- Enter the local server details from the table below.
- Click Sign In.
