How to Add Gmail to Apple Mail on Mac

The easiest way to add Gmail to Apple Mail is through the built-in Google account option. No server settings needed — just sign in.

Apple Mail on Mac has native support for Gmail — you don't need to look up any server settings. The built-in Google account option handles everything automatically.

  1. On your Mac, open System Settings (Apple menu → System Settings).
  2. Scroll down and click Internet Accounts.
  3. Click the + button, then choose Google.
  4. A Google sign-in window will open — enter your Gmail address and password.
  5. Grant the required permissions when asked.
  6. Make sure Mail is enabled in the account settings.
  7. Open Apple Mail — your Gmail inbox will appear automatically.

Method 2: Add Gmail Manually via IMAP

If you prefer manual setup or the above method doesn't work:

  1. In Apple Mail, go to Mail → Add Account.
  2. Choose Other Mail Account and click Continue.
  3. Enter your Gmail address and password, then click Sign In.
  4. If asked, enter the IMAP settings from the table below.
