How to Set Up Gmail on Android

Gmail comes pre-installed on Android. Here's how to add additional Gmail accounts and set up the Gmail app for the best experience.

Android and Gmail are both made by Google, so they work together seamlessly. The Gmail app is pre-installed on most Android devices. Adding a Gmail account takes less than a minute.

Add a Gmail Account on Android

  1. Open the Settings app on your Android device.
  2. Scroll down to Accounts (or "Passwords & accounts" on newer devices).
  3. Tap Add account → Google.
  4. Enter your Gmail address and tap Next.
  5. Enter your Google password and complete any verification steps.
  6. Choose which data to sync (Gmail, Contacts, Calendar) and tap Agree.
Using the Gmail app directly? Open the Gmail app → tap your profile picture (top right) → Add another account → Google. Sign in and you're done.

Multiple Gmail Accounts

You can add as many Gmail accounts as you need. Switch between them by tapping your profile picture in the Gmail app and selecting the account you want.
